Elemental Sketches

Another sketch I drawn and snapped a picture of with my phone.

I've been reading up on mythical beings recently thanks to games like "Persona" and "Dragon Coins" a mobile phone "coin dozer" like game from Sega that I like to play when on the toilet. Anyway some of the beings I've read up about are the elemental beings from the alchemical writings of Paracelsus. The Salamanders, the Sylphs, the Gnomes and the Undines so I just felt like drawing my own renditions of them.

On the top left we have a Sylph an Air elemental. They are supposedly invisible but they generally portrayed as fairy like beings. They really don't have that much of a mythos behind them honestly. I tried to make it's hair sort of cartoonish and cloud like but I'm not really proud of how it came out. Also instead of flying with wings I decided to make it fly with a mini tornado. It looks cuter that way.

On the top right we have a Gnome an Earth elemental. That's right these fellas are more then just garden decorations. They are beings of the earth being only 2 spans tall, reluctant to work with humans and can move as freely through the earth as humans move through air. I had some fun designing this guy. I really wanted to make him look like an earth elemental being made out of rocks and gravel because the designs of garden gnomes really don't do their mythos justice.

At the bottom left we have an Undine a Water elemental. Lacking a human soul the only way they can gain one is by marrying a human man. However if he is unfaithful she will curse him and kill him, harsh eh? Another one I had fun designing. I was originally gonna give her water like hair but then I thought why not just give her really wet looking hair because you know being a water elemental. It must be though to keep your hair dry and the rest is basically a swimsuit, bracelets and anklets .

Last and definitely least we have a Salamander a Fire elemental. It looks derpy as hell because I really can't think of good design for a amphibian/lizard that can survive in fire. I couldn't even think of a good fire like design for it's body so it's got that poorly angled childishly drawn fire drawing on the nape of it's neck. Yeah I really didn't try that hard for this one but what else can I do for a fire amphibian/lizard and not make it look like some Charmander knockoff.
